The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology is a regionally accredited graduate school inclusive of traditional psychology and especially concentrated on consciousness studies; the relationship between psychological and spiritual experiences; and the lived integration of body, mind, spirit, creativity, and community. ITP emphasizes whole-person experiential learning. Residential MA and Ph.D. degrees are offered in addition to non-residential distance learning certificates and degrees. The school is located in Palo Alto, California, 45 minutes south of San Francisco. A collegial faculty and administrative culture prevails.

Curricular areas for core and contract faculty include transpersonal theory, spiritual traditions, spiritual guidance, creative expression, clinical psychology, human development, group and community work, organizational development, mind-body healing, somatic psychology, subtle energy, parapsychology, and transpersonal ecopsychology, as well as research methods and dissertation advising.

Clinical Supervisor,
Transpersonal Counseling Center

Part-time (8-10 hours/week), non-benefited, contract position
Reports to the Director of Transpersonal Counseling Center

Summary of Position:  Supervision of interns and advanced practicum students at Transpersonal Counseling Center (CAPIC doctoral internship program), with a specific focus on psychological services provided to patients with cystic fibrosis, as well as to families and caregivers.  Liaise with collaborative partner organizations, including The Center for Education in Family and Community Medicine at Stanford University and Cystic Fibrosis Research Inc.   Coordinate new intakes and referrals in consultation with Director and other program supervisors.  Develop and coordinate a series of trainings in the area of health psychology and the psychosocial needs of patients with cystic fibrosis.

Responsibilities: In the area of clinical supervision and teaching, primary duties include:

  • Supervision of doctoral interns who are providing individual, couples, group, and family psychotherapy (individual supervision for 4 interns – one hour each per week; group supervision up to one hour per week)
  • Providing or coordinate training activities focused on health psychology, chronic illness, and specifically, the psychosocial needs of patients with cystic fibrosis, and the impact of the disease on families and caregivers;
  • Coordinating support groups for families and caregivers of CF patients;
  • Overseeing client files, record keeping, fee issues, and legal/ethical compliance;
  • Consulting with Program Director and other supervisors, as appropriate
  • Providing liaison to outside agencies and medical facilities including collaborative partners and referring parties;
  • Providing phone consultation availability and back-up for interns.

Requirements: Ph.D. in Psychology or equivalent; California Psychology License (will consider licensed MFT or LCSW); training/experience in supervision, experience in health psychology and treating patients with chronic illness; experience working with medical professionals to coordinate patient care, teaching experience and the ability to  integrate theory with clinical practice, an understanding of transpersonal psychology, and the ability to apply a multicultural perspective to teaching and clinical work. Interest and experience in contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice is desirable.

Full-Time and Half-Time Clinical Psychology Faculty

The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology invites applicants for full-time and half-time core faculty Clinical Psychology positions. We are seeking applicants with a broad range of research and clinical experience. A candidate with research and dissertation advising skills may also serve as half-time Associate Dissertation Director. The positions are open until filled.

Applicants should have a PhD in Clinical Psychology, be licensed or license eligible in California, be qualified to teach clinical psychology and to supervise students, and serve on dissertation committees in the residential (on-campus) Clinical PhD Program. Experience with APA accreditation is a plus. We invite applications from persons early in careers as well as those with more academic experience.

Candidates with one or more of the following are particularly encouraged to apply: knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, whole person and experiential learning, the integration of mind, body, and spirit, and experience or interest in field such as Transpersonal, Integral, Positive, or Cross-Cultural Psychology.

Founded in 1975, ITP is a regionally accredited (WASC), non-sectarian private graduate institute with award winning students and outstanding faculty in teaching, research activities, publications, and leadership in the transpersonal field.
