Office of the President: Welcome

Dr. Neal KingThank you for your interest in the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP), a distinctive and innovative graduate school where a community of dedicated scholars, scientists and practitioners embrace life's spiritual dimension, and where disciplined inquiry and clinical training focus on the whole person – body, mind, heart and spirit. At ITP you'll find a warm and generous community of learners, respectful of one another's individual path.

ITP is widely recognized as a global leader in transpersonal education. Our deep commitment to academic excellence is reflected in the groundbreaking research of our faculty and students. Research areas include transcendent experiences, the nature of consciousness, grief, forgiveness, social justice, trauma, feminism, creativity, Jungian psychology, and Eastern and Western spiritual experience. Our expertise is reflected in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional conferences, such as the American Psychological Association (APA), the European Transpersonal Association (ETA), and the Association of Transpersonal Psychology (ATP).

ITP's tradition of excellence is seen in fifteen ITP students receiving APA awards for their dissertation research, Dr. Robert Frager, the institute's founder receiving the Charlotte and Karl Buehler Award from the APA for "outstanding and lasting contributions to Transpersonal and Humanistic Psychology;" and core faculty Dr. Charles Tart receiving the APA Abraham Maslow Award for his "numerous contributions to the profession and practice of Humanistic Psychology."

We continue to develop professional alliances with groups such as the Association for Transpersonal Psychology, the C. G. Jung Institute of San Francisco, the Stanford University Center for Education in Family and Community Medicine, the Ravenswood School District in East Palo Alto, California, the European Transpersonal Association, and the Institute of Noetic Sciences. Our Global students are involved in work with AIDS patients in South Africa, consultation on Indigenous Culture in Mexico, Transpersonal Education in Macau, and Caregiver Well-being research in Hong Kong.

Our newer programs are designed to meet current and future students' needs. They include an M.A. in Women's Spirituality, an M.A. in Spiritual Guidance, a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with a spiritual orientation, and an online M.A. program in Counseling Psychology. I encourage you to read more about our history, mission and fabulous location in the San Francisco Bay Area. A brief description of Transpersonal Psychology and a glimpse into the richness and diversity of student life at ITP will help guide your decision to join our community. Welcome to ITP.

All best wishes,
