ITP students are mature individuals from a broad range of professional backgrounds including education, business, health, law and theology who have reached a point in their lives when they desire to pursue areas of personal growth, career development and community contribution. These adult learners range in age from the mid-twenties to the late sixties.
Student life is rich with opportunities to participate in the life of the community. Members of learning communities gather together in numerous ways to learn, form special interest groups and enjoy one another in a social setting. Below is a partial list of institute resources, groups and events.
Resources:
- Disabilities Support Services (DSS): The Institute is committed to working with enrolled students who have disabilities as defined under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008 and March 2011. The Dean of Student Services will work on an individual, case-by-case basis to create a plan of reasonable accommodation for any student who, through recent assessment and diagnosis, can document a disability.
- The Writing and Research Center (WRC): The Writing & Research Center (WRC) is for any ITP student and is a free one-on-one writing assistance in-person, via Skype, or through email. The WRC also has limited support for students who are writing their dissertations or theses. In addition to these ongoing services, the WRC also sponsors programs like the summer writing support group open to any student at ITP as well as the Dissertation and Thesis Boot camp, a summer program specifically designed to help dissertation and thesis students.
- Transpersonal Learning Community Support Center (TLC): The TLC Support Center is a safe and confidential place on campus for students to chat about life, school, family, work, internship, or any other topic on their mind. The TLC is committed to supporting students with professional development and personal growth, and aims to help students make the most of their time as the Institute. The TLC is staffed by a Clinical Psychology graduate of the Institute who is familiar with the institutional culture and has experienced completing a whole-person learning graduate program. This free support is available on campus for local students and by Skype or phone for students at a distance.
- Community Center for Health and Wellness (CCH&W): ITP sponsors the Community Center for Health & Wellness (CCHW), a nonprofit community counseling center. The mission of the CCHW is to provide excellence in training for interns while being a wide and varied service to our Bay Area community. This mission is realized through the many collaborative community partners and the CCHW professional staff. The CCHW serves individuals, couples, families, and children of diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds.
- Career Resource Center (CRC): The Career Resource Center empowers students and alumni to utilize their individual gifts and talents in a career of service, while fostering personal community, compassion, transformation, joy and prosperity. The CRC has a bi-monthly on-line newsletter profiling students/alums with career information and job links.
- Community Engagement Coordinator: Advises students in all aspects of practicum and internship field work experience in all on campus programs. This includes individual and group student support sessions related to the application process, resume building, interviewing skills, job search assistance, on-site training issues as well as non-profit outreach and site development.
- Diversity Action Team (DAT): The Diversity Action Team is a cross-constituency diversity-focused advisory and support committee consisting of students, staff, and faculty. The team assists the administration and community in their awareness of ITP’s diversity and appreciation of diversity. The DAT does this through acting as sponsors for events, dialoging with the administration about diversity matters, and working on strategic projects.
- Student Liaison Board (SLB): The Student Liaison Board (SLB) was formed to address student issues and to provide a quick and appropriate manner to disseminate information. One student is chosen from each cohort to serve on this board. The members serve as the primary link between the administration and the class groups.
Community Events:
- Meditation Circles: For those who wish to participate, twice a week time is set aside for meditation. The circles have included mindfulness/inner body awareness, compassion mediation, heart centered meditation, authentic movement, guided imagery, meditations with nature and peace circles.
- Community/Town Hall Meetings: Twice a quarter, the President of the Institute convenes a Community/Town Hall meeting where students, faculty and staff gather to communicate about the institute and to exchange ideas about future directions. Global students have the opportunity to meet with the President in their Community/Town Hall meetings during each of their seminars.
- Harvest Potluck and Talent Show: Each November, ITP has its annual Harvest Potluck & Talent Show. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, and their families are invited to join in a community ritual, potluck and talent show.
- Presentation Day: In late spring, a day is set aside for our graduating Doctoral and Master students to present to faculty, students, staff, family and friends their inspired and innovative research contributions to the field of Transpersonal Psychology.
- Commencement Ceremony: In June, ITP’s annual Commencement Ceremony is held to honor all our graduates for the academic year.
