Transformational Coaching Training Program

The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology
Dept. of Continuing Education
650-493-4430 ext. 269

The Transformational Coaching Training Program is a 12-month program, meeting both Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of each month, unless otherwise specified. It will begin October 4-5, 2008 and continue through September 12 -13, 2009.

The course is a stand-alone (non-degree seeking) program. Information on the program that is integrated with our degree programs can be found in the Global Professional Training Program.

This year’s training will bring in internationally acclaimed experts, who coach to specific populations (e.g., creativity coaching, corporate coaching, etc.).  Each weekend has a particular focus and to some degree, each weekend builds on the previous session. Yet, any weekend independently will provide an enormous impact on its own.

Certification requires attending either 9 sessions for a basic certification or all 12 weekends for an advanced certificate of completion. Certification also requires receiving coaching for at least 6 months, in group and/or individual sessions.

Those not interested in certification can attend any or all weekends to pick up skills in particular areas of interest. Coaching skills will add speed and power to your therapeutic work, spiritual guidance, teaching, or consulting.

36 continuing education units are available for MFTs, LCSWs, and RNs.

The schedule of the training weekends is as follows (an asterisk indicates required sessions for Certification):

*October 4-5  Basic Principles of Coaching I: Transformational Approach to Coaching
Coaching has a unique set of skills and tools. We will begin the exploration of what we listen for: Distinguishing coaching from therapy and spiritual guidance, the Self from survival mechanisms and strategies.

*November 1-2 Basic Principles II: Investigating Various Models of Coaching
We will explore a number of models of coaching; investigate the other side of living from Essence; Aligning with integrity; choice vs. integrity; Life is about relationships.

*December 6-7  Life Coaching: The Body and Soul of Coaching
The heart and essence of the individual shows up in relationship, business, leadership and community. This weekend focuses specifically on the individual and what needs to shift in their actions and conversations to move them quickly towards a satisfying and meaningful existence.

January 10-11 Coaching to the Marketing and Selling of Small Businesses
Focus is on the conversations interfering with advancing your practice as a coach; learn techniques to allow breakthroughs of hidden personal barriers hindering the development of the marketing and sales skills needed to increase income and sustainability, with less stress and a lot less effort.

*February 7-8  Spiritual Coaching
There is an undeniable influence of spirit in our lives. Coaching brings clarity to our spiritual nature and its presence in the world. It supports conscious evolution of our humanity in true partnership with spirit. By focusing on our ground of being as our foundation, we explore the steps along the path to well-being and union with our highest calling.

March 7-8 Creativity Coaching
How does an individual generate creative endeavors to the fullness and richness of the inner desires? What obstacles impede inspiration and manifestation of the desired results? Coaching allows the tensions and conflicts to be resolved and the art of living to come alive.

April 4-5 Developing Leadership Skills for Personal and Professional Results
Leaders, especially global leaders regard themselves as vehicles of transformation for the greater good of all people. With humility and wisdom they seek to understand the needs of the people they serve, and rise to meet the challenge, to transcend the impossible in order to greet the possible.

*May 2-3 Relationship Coaching
We are always in relationship with everyone and everything. Distinguishing beliefs, judgments, assumptions and expectations from our commitment to fully engage in relationship can allow full access to effective and exciting connections.

June 6-7 Coaching Organizations
Each organization has a unique environment.  How individuals live and work in such an environment either supports and sustains the vision of the organization or becomes an obstacle to it. The organization either assists the individual employees in furthering their personal development or hinders it. We explore coaching techniques that empowers and enhances deep and sustainable development for both organization and the individual.

*July 30 – Aug 2 The Somatics of Coaching & Emerging Issues  (A four day off-site retreat)
This off-site four day training combines the crucial issues of the use of our body-wisdom in coaching sessions with the birth matrix model of Stan Grof.  Included in this weekend is a breathwork experience and other experiential processes, which increase the coaches’ capacity to use their body as a listening instrument.
