Doralee Grindler Katonah

Dr. Grindler Katonah joins our faculty as Associate Professor, Executive Core Faculty. She recently moved to California after serving as both Adjunct and Associate Professor at The American School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, Chicago from 1994 – Present. She is a licensed psychologist in the state of California: PSY 22149.
Doralee was the Founding Director of The Focusing Institute and is currently a Certifying Coordinator for training in Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy. She has taught the Experiential Focusing Approach through local, national, and international programs, including most recently, in China and Japan. She has applied Focusing to the fields of Mind/Body Medicine and Transpersonal Psychology, and is developing an approach to cross-cultural and cross-religious communication in which differences function to further felt meaning for each person.
Doralee has a specialty in Health Psychology and for eight years served as staff and faculty at Advocate Medical Group Center for Complementary Medicine, Park Ridge, IL. She provided psychological services integrating a range of mind/body practices and spiritual development as part of a holistic team approach to healing. Her doctoral research investigated the usefulness of Clearing a Space, the first step of Focusing, as an adjunct treatment for recovery from cancer. Both the two scales she developed for this study, and the method of intervention have been further investigated in over 7 studies.
Doralee's spiritual journey has included exploring many spiritual practices and religious traditions, including most recently, 9 years of practicing Zazen and studying Soto Zen Buddhism. She has a deep respect for the diversity of the spirit and the unique ways in which each person is touched by and engaged in the mystery of life.
She has a special interest in how to work with the spiritual dynamics that are set in motion through traumatic experiences.
