Global Online M.A. Program Distance Learning Modalities
Our distance-learning format allows you to study from your own home, within your own community, to keep your job, be with your family, and engage with your schoolwork during times that make sense to you. The Global Master's Faculty value diverse ways of learning. Our course modules and our virtual classrooms are designed to allow you many ways to engage in your education. As a distant learning student you will: a) attend seminars, b) study in learning communities through our online campus, c) engage in practicum experiences in your own community, and d) participate in transpersonal/spiritual practices. You will also have full access to our online library.
Learning Communities – Honoring Our Learning Style
You may choose to learn within your preferred learning style. You have two options: 1) work in a learning community with small groups of students facilitated by one or two mentors and 2) work independently under the guidance of an individual mentor. This choice is made at the beginning of the program at the time of your interview and again when you enter your second year. In either case, learning will take place online using the Angel Learning Management System.
If you choose to be part of a learning community, you will continue with the same group of students and mentors throughout your first year. During the second year, you will progress through the specialization courses with students who have selected the same area of study and your courses will be facilitated by mentors with specialized experience in your field. Electives and Coaching courses are also taught by specialized mentors.
Seminars: Meeting the Larger ITP Community
Our six or seven day seminars provide you with opportunities to get to know fellow classmates, the faculty and staff, and learn about key aspects of the program. Presentations by prominent transpersonal speakers are interspersed with meditation, movement, body awareness processes, group interaction, creative expression, and ritual.
Seminars take place at retreat centers in California as we find these environments deeply representative of our transpersonal education.
Mentor-Student Relationships: Supporting Student Experiences
You will work closely with personal mentors who guide your education. Mentors are uniquely qualified to facilitate transpersonal learning, personal processes and encourage creativity, spiritual practice, and authentic response to assignments. Mentors have advanced degrees in transpersonal psychology or related areas and understand the nuances of experiential, whole person learning. Mentors not only facilitate instruction but will also help you to integrate transpersonal experiences and practices into your personal and professional life. More information on the Global Faculty Mentors is available on the Global Faculty Mentor Page.
Course Modules: Learning from Transpersonal Authors
Our modules are authored by experts who value the integration of spirit, body and mind and who appreciate diverse perspectives and diverse ways of learning. Each course module includes goals, assignments, reading requirements, creative choices, and often media. Modules are available online, require approximately fifteen to twenty hours of study per week, and are to be completed in six weeks.
Professional Practicum: Bridging Our Transpersonal Education with Our Community
As a Global online student you will participate in a professional practicum experience of your own design. This practicum is arranged by you, approved by the faculty mentor, and supervised by a professional in the field. Practicum experiences are chosen to prepare you for future professional work or to provide new tools for your present professional work.
Transpersonal Discipline and Practice: Cultivating our Being
You will explore a variety of transpersonal disciplines and during your coursework and eventually commit to one self-selected practice during your second year. Practices might include meditation, prayer, art-based practices, engaged spirituality practices, practices of gratitude, Aikido, Yoga, and more.
Final Explorations: Creative Synthesis
During the last quarter of your learning, you are encouraged to reflect back on your education, life experiences, profession application, and reflect forward as you consider what lies ahead.
Transpersonal Integration Paper: Reflecting upon our Learning
The Transpersonal Integration Paper is designed to bridge scholarship with transformative learning, professional experiences, and intuitive insight. It also requires that you consider how your transpersonal learning will contribute to your future goals and aspirations and to a more conscious world.
Showcase Portfolio: Owning our Talents
You will develop individual electronic portfolios during your MTP program. Electronic portfolios are web-based documents that show evidence of your knowledge, competencies, transformation, integration, and application of your transpersonal education and professional experiences. These web sites can include documents, spreadsheets, sound recordings, photographs, and video clips and are powerful self-statements that can be shared with future employers. They are displayed on individual web sites maintained by you.
