Global Online M.A. Program Specializations
Each Professional Specialization has unique requirements that provide a background in that specialization. These requirements are listed below. In addition, you will select one of the following:
- Two Specialization Electives, or
- An External Professional Training Program
In addition, you will also participate in a Professional Practicum, engage in a year-long Transpersonal Discipline and Practice, write a Transpersonal Integration Paper and develop a Showcase Portfolio.

Transpersonal Health and Wellness
If you are interested in providing services to people and organizations that help them move toward wholeness, optimal functioning, and balance through the integration of body, mind, and spirit the Professional Specialization in Transpersonal Health and Wellness is the right choice for you. Required courses include:
- GLBM 8241 Introduction to Integrative Health and Wellness (3 Units)
- GLBM 8242 Science, Spirituality, & Healing (3 Units)
- GLBM 8451 Approaches to Transpersonal Healing Practices (3 Units)
Career possibilities in this area can include wellness consultant; life coach (with a dual specialization in Transformational Coaching Training); wellness specialist in organizations, communities, and schools; hospital/hospice worker; workshop facilitator; researcher/writer; holistic practitioner and more.
Some professions require specialized professional training. In these cases, opting for external training or coaching training can be an innovative educational choice.
This pathway could also serve as an academic home for students in qualified training programs such as Yoga therapy, body-mind consciousness, alternative health and stress reduction, and shamanic practitioner training.
In this specialization you will enjoy working with the creative process either through the expressive arts or creative thinking. If you like to think outside of box and come up with new and innovative ideas this is the right specialization for you. This specialization is easily applied to organizations, corporations, hospitals, schools and in working with individuals. Required courses include:
- GLBM 8142 Creative Expression and Transformation (3 Units)
- GLBM 8141 Inquiry into Creative and Innovative Processes (3 Units)
- GLBM 8143 Ways of Knowing (3 Units)
Career possibilities through this pathway include creativity coach (with a dual specialization in Transformational Coaching Training), corporate consultant in creativity and innovation, educator, workshop facilitator, curriculum designer, writer, artist, and peace worker. This is a good choice for practicing health workers, business consultants, and educators who wish to integrate creative processes into their existing work or for change agents who wish to find alternative ways to approach groups and organizations. Some professions require specialized professional training. In these cases, opting for external professional training or coaching training might be a viable educational choice.
This specialization is also a good choice for many students who see themselves as Cultural Creatives and who want to find new and original ways for changing the world. This pathway can serve as an academic home for students in qualified training programs that focus on the expressive arts, poetry therapy, creativity coaching, authentic movement, consultation, peace work, and entrepreneurial endeavors.
If you are interested in a profession in the field of spirituality, spiritual guidance or wish to bring spirituality into schools, organizations or into your existing career, the Spiritual Psychology specialization is the right choice for you. Required courses include:
- GLBM 8342 Self Cultivation (3 Units)
- GLBM 8341 Introduction to Spiritual Psychology (3 Units)
- GLBM 8143 Ways of Knowing (3 Units)
Career possibilities might include spirituality coach (with a dual specialization in Transformational Coaching Training), spiritual director or spiritual guide (with Spiritual Guidance Training), retreat center facilitator, hospital/hospice worker, peace worker, community organizer and more. Health care professionals, business people, and educators might choose this track to enhance existing careers. Some professions require specialized professional training. In these cases, opting external training or coaching training might be a viable educational choice.
This pathway could also serve as an academic home for students in qualified programs such as interfaith ministry, spiritual guidance, hospice training, death education, organizational leadership, and spirituality.
Transformational Life Coaching
This specialization is designed to provide you the educational background necessary to apply for coach certification through the International Coach Federation (ICF). It will prepare you to enter into a professional coaching relationship with clients and help you establish a specialized coaching practice. The required courses are:
- GLBM 7551 Introduction to Transformational Coaching (3 Units)
- GLBM 8233 Transformational Coaching Process (3 Units)
- GLBM 8234 Practicum in Transformational Coaching (3 Units)
- GLBM 8235 Professional Application of Transformational Coaching (3 Units)
Students may also choose to participate in the dual specialization option and combine the Specialization in Transformational Life Coaching with another specialization to work toward careers such as health and wellness coach, spirituality coach, creativity coach, as well as pursuing a number of other viable career options.
This pathway could also serve as an academic home for students in qualified programs such as death counseling, Psychosynthesis, spiritual direction, organizational leadership, and the like.
Dual Specializations
At the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, we offer students the opportunity to work toward a dual specialization. You may combine any two areas of specialization to create a unique blend of learning and competency. You have the option to complete the core course requirements and electives along with the transpersonal practice and practicum requirements in your first area of specialization. In your third year, you will take the three required courses for your second specialization, two additional elective courses, and complete a professional practicum relevant to your second specialization. You will complete another Transpersonal Integration Paper and modify your Showcase Portfolio.
