Spotlight On Classes

Spotlight on Enneagram

The following is a list of classes that relate to various aspects of the Enneagram. Most of these classes were offered in the past. The particular electives offered by the Institute vary at any given time. The school tries to be responsive to the particular interests of the current student body and aims to have the curriculum reflect those interests. The number of current classes that fall under the category of the Enneagram depends on both teacher availability and student interest. Information on current classes can be found in the academic catalog.

The Enneagram in Relationships, Therapy, and Transformation

The Enneagram is a profound spiritual and psychological system based on nine fundamental ways attention is organized. The resulting nine habitual patterns of attention (called types) greatly affect our beliefs, habitual preoccupations, and behaviors. The Enneagram is observationally based and provides a powerful means for understanding ourselves and others, for conducting psychotherapy, for building fulfilling relationships, for integrating personality psychology and transpersonal psychology, and for the reclamation of one's higher or essential self. In addition, the Enneagram dramatically demonstrates how personal reactivity relates to the holographic nature of the Enneagram.

Enneagram and the Body

The focus of this course is to learn the Enneagram theory of personality and to experience through the mind, emotions, and the body, the nine personality styles. In addition to the use of the Oral Tradition method, that is, the revelation of type through an interview process, this course will focus on invoking the inner experience of each of the types. The course is designed to facilitate direct experience by the use of movement, partner practice, energetic and awareness exercises. Video of experienced exemplars of each style will be presented. The participants will experience how attention organizes into distinct perceptual views and in what ways these views influence thinking, feeling, and behavior. This course will emphasize not only the discovery of one's own type but the wholeness of Self that includes all perspectives.
