Spotlight on Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy
This program provides a necessary introduction to contemporary hypnotic principles and methods, emphasizing Traditional, Ericksonian, and Transpersonal approaches. A partial list of topics includes rapport skills, interviewing for hypnosis, relaxation, imagery, induction techniques, hypnotic phenomena, regression, metaphor, and pattern work. Each session includes both lecture and extensive practice in a supportive context.

Clinical Hypnotherapy
Clinical Hypnosis is a foundational course in Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, which provides an understanding of the essence of transpersonal approaches, the history of hypnosis, the language of hypnosis, and the application of hypnosis to psychotherapy. The course covers several hypnotic inductions, provides instruction on how to monitor trance states, utilize suggestibility tests, and both learn and teach self-hypnosis. Students will be introduced to NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and Naturalistic approaches to hypnotherapy. This foundational course offers the opportunity to learn and practice journeywork in a supportive environment, where each individual will participate as both a student-client and a student-therapist. Feedback to student-therapists from student-clients and the teaching staff offers each student a chance to enhance their therapeutic skills, languaging, and effectiveness working with clients in the hypnotic state. Demonstration sessions will be videoed with student's permission, for student use only.

Hypnosis in Counseling and Psychotherapy

Several topics will be explored in this course related to the integration of hypnotic practices in the setting of counseling and psychotherapy. Through skill-building exercises and didactic class participation, students will develop the ability to to induce hypnotic trances via direct authoritarian methods; know how to induce hypnotic trances via indirect methods; and know how to use hypnosis as a therapeutic method within ethical standards of mental health professions. In addition students will be instructed in methods for teaching self-hypnosis to their clients. Special emphasis will be placed upon developing an understanding the similarities and differences of hypnotically refreshed memory and the ethical and legal considerations in memory retrieval in therapy.
