FAQ - Questions About the Global Certificate and Master's Program

I maintain a busy schedule. Will I have time to complete a degree in the Global program?

Students enrolling into the Global program should plan to spend between 20-25 hours a week completing their course assignments. However, the Global programs are designed for those prospective students who want to further their education while working full-time, raising a family, or fulfilling other personal or professional responsibilities. The Global Programs are designed to offer maximum flexibility for students who have the desire, ability, and motivation to work independently. Each Certificate and Degree program offers course work through distance learning, with on-site seminars scheduled only one or two times a year. Students complete only one course at a time, with each course lasting six weeks. They have the option of being part of a learning group or working under the supervision of a personal mentor.

What is a "transpersonal practitioner" and how can the Global program prepare me for this kind of work?

A transpersonal practitioner is someone who uses various techniques and the body of knowledge found in transpersonal psychology to facilitate the health, well-being, and spiritual growth of individuals, groups, and communities. These techniques or practices help an individual to dis-identify with limiting notions of self and to activate his or her own creative potential to live with a deeper purpose in life. These techniques include body scanning, guided imagery, meditative practices, inner dialogue, authentic movement and sensory awareness.

In many of the Global programs, information and personal practice with these techniques are incorporated into the course work. Our graduates have found that these techniques have direct application to a variety of professional settings, including wellness counseling, psychotherapy, teaching, consulting, coaching, education, spiritual guidance, and corporate and business trainings.

What other professional skills or competencies will I acquire in the Global program?

Besides transpersonal practitioner skills, our graduates find ways to incorporate creativity and spirituality to promote innovative problem-solving and team-building within a variety of contexts, such as individual counseling, small groups, businesses and organizations. And those students who choose the Transformational Life Coaching option, receive professional training in one of the fastest growing approaches to one-on-one work.

What role will the Global program play in helping me integrate what I learn into my current profession or a new career?

There are two facets of the Global program that are designed to help you apply what you are learning into meaningful work. First, each Global student is assigned a mentor. As experts in the field our mentors may provide you with direction in helping tailor your course assignments so that they have relevance and application to your current work. Second, each student is required to complete a project at the end of his or her program in which they apply the training and academic knowledge they received in the Global program. For many students this project becomes the seed-bed for trainings, workshops, group process work, and other professional applications. In addition, ITP maintains a Career Resource Center that disseminates much useful information about professional workshops and job opportunities.

What makes ITP’s Global programs different from other psychology certificate or degree programs?

ITP’s Global program provides an education that encourages a "both…and" approach toward learning. Students are provided with both information and experience, opportunities for both inner work and professional development, training in both critical thinking and intuition. In this regard ITP’s Global program explores and researches the field of psychology holistically, offering a fully embodied learning experience that invites students to work toward their personal wholeness as they work to achieve their professional goals.
