FAQ - Resources

What kinds of resources are available at the ITP library?

ITP's commitment to quality academic of instruction and excellence in research is reflected by the variety of resources in the Institute's library. It is the research center for all programs and contains over 15,000 books, 170 journal titles, and an extensive collection of audio and video resources, including many lectures. Students have access to numerous research databases, with thousands of full text resources available online, including scholarly journals and e-books. These collections are particularly strong in the six areas of the Institute's curriculum: transpersonal theory and research, spiritual psychology, emotional and clinical psychology, body-work disciplines, expressive arts, and the social aspects of the transpersonal movement. In addition, computers with Internet access, word processing software, and laser printing are available in the library's Computer Lab. Most journal articles and books not held by the library may be obtained through inter-library loan. The ITP Library is a member of the Northern California Consortium of Psychology Libraries (NCCPL), allowing ITP students free access to a number of other psychology-oriented libraries in the Bay Area.

What kinds of field placement resources are available at ITP?

ITP assists students in clinical programs in finding appropriate clinical practicum and internship sites that fulfill program requirements and professional board requirements for the State of California. Through the Clinical Coordinators, students receive personal consultation, periodic workshops, practicum position listings and information on professional licensing requirements.

The Career Resource Center (CRC) provides job links that range from clinical positions to academic and administrative posts. The CRC also provides resume/curriculum vitae review, hosts workshops on career development and skill building, and provides a library which includes career guides, DVDs of recorded past CRC events, and books related to professions in the field.

The Writing Lab offers free one-on-one writing assistance (in-person or online via Skype and/or email) for all residential students and on-line writing resources and referrals to writing tutors for all ITP students including global and low-residency programs. Writing Lab tutors are able to assist in all phases of the writing process. The main focus of the Writing Lab is scholarly and academic writing. However, writing assistance is also available for other types of class papers. The Writing Lab is a resource for improving technical skills, critical thinking, and scholarly inquiry and communication that will contribute to your academic development.

The Community Engagement Office supports non-clinical students in setting up a praxis or practicum with a site. A praxis site is a site that has been contacted by the Community Engagement Coordinator and has confirmed community service volunteer opportunities for our transpersonal students in the area of spiritual guidance, women's spirituality, creative expression or sites that provide holistic services of general interest to transpersonal students. These sites are aware of forms required by ITP for praxis sites, and have agreed to complete these forms. They have also agreed generally to have a supervisor available for support/guidance for the ITP student. Some sites are comfortable with short range commitments (10 weeks), and some prefer a six month or year-long commitment after they train the volunteer. Most sites are well established in the community with long standing volunteer programs which ITP students will become part of and will benefit from during their praxis experience.
