Residential Ph.D. African-American Scholarship
Purpose of Fund:
To provide financial support to current African American students enrolled in on-campus
Doctoral Programs.
Eligibility:
In selecting scholarship recipients, the following criteria will be considered:
- Must be African American (self-identified as African American)
- Enrollment status must be full-time third year (exceptions to this criteria are made on
a case by case basis) - Financial need
- Good academic standing

- To be considered for this scholarship, all applicants must complete both the application for this scholarship AND the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA). Please contact the Financial Aid office financial_aid@itp.edu or 650-493-4430 x 241) for more information on the FAFSA.
No applicant is to be given preferential information or treatment by members of the Board of Trustees or the staff of ITP. All applicants will receive the same information about the scholarship and how to fill out the application.
Application Deadline:
All application materials must be received by the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1. This is a firm deadline. Incomplete applications and applications received after this date will not be considered for scholarship aid.
Selection Process:
- Applicants are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee
- All criteria requirements are reviewed
- Priority will be given to students who have never received the African American Scholarship in the past
The committee’s choices are final and their ratings confidential.
Disbursement of Awards:
All applications for scholarship aid will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. Applicants will be notified in writing of the Financial Aid Committee’s decisions no later than July 1.
All scholarship awards are in the form of tuition reduction applied directly to student accounts in three equal installments in Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters. Award is $1,000 per quarter (maximum of $3,000 per year) as tuition reduction. No cash awards will be made under any circumstances.
Number and Amount of Scholarships:
The number and amount of scholarships will be determined each year by the Scholarship Committee, depending on available funding and students who meet the criteria.
Application Files:
Once delivered, applications become the property of ITP. They will be kept on file for one year after the application deadline date. After this time they will be destroyed. Their contents and the Selection Committee's ratings are confidential and will not be released to anyone, including applicants.
