Tom Potterfield Doctoral Diversity Scholarship
The Tom Potterfield Diversity Scholarship Fund keeps alive the memory of Tom, ITP's beloved president, while helping promising students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds attend ITP. Tom was dedicated to making a difference with underserved populations of the world and was committed to this scholarship fund as a means for doing so. After graduating, these scholarship recipients return home to foster wisdom, health and wholeness among individuals, families and groups in their own communities.
Award: Up to $5,000 per year
Renewable: Renewable for up to 3 additional years (total of four) based on performance in program, full-time attendance, and availability of funds
Who Is Eligible to Apply? New doctoral program applicants of economically or culturally diverse background or of a historically under-represented group in higher education.
Criteria of Eligibility:
- Acceptance into one of ITP's doctoral programs.
- Commitment to utilizing your ITP education to make a difference in your community. (Students will be required to make a service commitment of two years.)
- Demonstrated financial need.
Application Deadline: Scholarship applications received by the priority deadline of June 1, 2012 will be given early consideration. Applications received after that date will be given consideration on a funds availability basis.
Selection Date: Initial scholarship recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Committee by July 1. Subsequent recipients (based on funds availability) will be selected at a later date.
How to Apply:
- Submit a completed application to one of ITP's doctoral programs for the 2012 start date.
- Complete the Doctoral Scholarship Application for year 2012-2013.
- Include a 1-2 page essay describing 1) what qualifies you for the scholarship and 2) a two-year plan for applying your ITP doctoral education in service of your community.
- File a 2012-2013 FAFSA listing the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (code G22676) as a recipient.
- Non-U.S. citizens, please fill out Income Verification Form and Request for I-20

Renewal Process: Recipients of the Doctoral Scholarship may renew their scholarships in subsequent years based on their academic progress, continued commitment to serving their community, participation in the ITP community, and availability of funds.
