ITP Alumni Share Their Wisdom at the "UNCONFERENCE"

Kenji Akahoshi leads a session on American Shin Buddhism"It's time to launch a new era for mutual empowerment in the ITP Alumni Community," said Susan London, member of the ITP Board of Trustees. We lifted off on October 1st with an innovative and inspiring event: the ITP Alumni Shared Wisdom Unconference.

An unconference is a collaborative event, designed by participants when they first gather. The purpose of our unconference was to share wisdom, stay connected to the transpersonal perspective so important to each of us, and to build our alumni community.

Alumni co-president, Lisa J. Arthur, began by drumming and singing a gathering chant. Dr. Loic Jassy led a guided meditation, in a return to the ITP experience. We then built the schedule for the rest of the day in a collaborative, well orchestrated, yet paradoxically chaotic, design session. The experience was effortless, and we were excited to see a wonderful range L-R: Raquel Mitchell, Loic Jassy, Susan London and Lisa J Arthur of sessions emerge, including:

Attendees loved the deep conversations and sharing with remarkable, like-minded others. Afterward, everyone expressed a desire to participate in a Shared Wisdom Unconference next year. Here's what they said:

"I came, open to whatever, and it exceeded my hopes."

"The best part was seeing old friends. Great sessions!"

"The community. A lot of new connections, new ideas."

"Support and inspiration."

"I loved being home."

"These people are amazing."

"I loved the intergenerational contact, the deep sharing, and interacting with other alumni."

The next step is to create a set of initiatives to keep the momentum going and growing. Three areas of interest emerged as Alumni looked at the future of our community:

  1. Cohort reunions,
  2. A forum for sharing wisdom online or via teleconference,
  3. Local alumni gatherings.

Fellow alumns Kirk Akahoshi and Liz Zed enjoy the sunshine on a breakIf you are interested in any of these events, or in participating in any way, please email alumni@itp.edu to get on our special mailing list. Let us know if you want to be part of this adventure! As we saw at the unconference, our unique blend of shared wisdom artful design and managed chaos can create wonders.
