With a unique online environment specifically designed to deliver ITP's whole-person education, you will receive superb training, build close realtionships with other students and faculty, and participate in a supportive online academic community.
The Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology is designed for a career in counseling and psychotherapy, and fulfills the academic requirements for graduates to qualify for state licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists. The curriculum combines foundational coursework in transpersonal psychology with specialized courses in counseling theory and skills development, including a year-long supervised practicum experience.
The 74-unit curriculum consists of 43.5 units offered in an online
instructional format and 30.5 units of hands-on clinical training, offered during two week-long residential intensives per year. Flexible scheduling allows students to complete the program in three or four years. Some states may require additional coursework to meet their specific licensure requirements.
In the context of a community process, emphasis is placed on personal integration of the course material, giving students the opportunity for inner transformational work. With the online classroom and the on-campus intensives as a laboratory, students use their own life experience as the basis for case study. They learn to critique and assess psychological theory, develop strong interpersonal skills, hone their therapeutic skills, and apply what they are learning to their own life's work. After building their foundation in both transpersonal and counseling psychology, students apply their skills through supervised practicum work in varied clinical and institutional settings that are local to the student.
