ITP Reaches Out to Underserved Communities with New Diversity Scholarship
ITP has always attracted exceptional students who desire not only to grow spiritually, but also to be of service to others. Now, with the Diversity Scholarship Fund, ITP is reaching out with intention to underserved communities around the globe.
The Diversity Scholarship will enable students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds to attend ITP. Recipients of the scholarship will be students who are determined to make a difference with underserved populations of the world.
After graduating, students often return to their own communities to begin their careers. ITP President Tom Potterfield explains, "ITP has always believed that who our students become is as important as what they learn. With the Diversity Scholarship drive we're acknowledging that where our students come from, and where they will return after graduation, is also important, and is key to spreading the power of a degree in transpersonal psychology to many more individuals and communities around the globe."
ITP graduates around the world are already helping others with issues of death, dying, empowerment, spirituality, self-esteem, healing and more. With the Diversity Scholarship Fund, ITP aims to build a deeper connection to the world, reach out farther and with greater intention.
The world hungers for what ITP offers.
ITP graduates master the technical material from the field of psychology. But they also go beyond the technical to reflect the qualities of mindfulness, compassion, discernment, and appreciation of differences. They are noted for having what Carl Rogers called "personal presence," which allows natural self-actualizing tendencies to proliferate in their clients. They are trained to address not only the psyche, but one of the most important and neglected aspects of human experience – our spiritual core.

ITP graduates are creative and effective therapists, counselors, business consultants, spiritual guides, researchers, coaches, trainers and teachers. Almost all of them have a desire to serve.
Sahibou Oumarou, a current residential Ph.D. student explains,
"My intent in coming to ITP was always to grow spiritually, and at the same time to be of service to other people."
Dr. Potterfield says, "We asked ourselves, 'What if students anywhere in the world – regardless of ability to pay – could experience the transformative power of an ITP education?' With financial assistance from the Diversity Scholarship Fund, promising students from the poorest regions of the world will be able to attend ITP and will then return to help their communities reach their potential for wisdom, health and wholeness."
Jeff Keimer is Vice Chair of ITP's Board of Trustees and also a professional investment advisor. He calls the Diversity Scholarship Fund a "leveraged investment." He says, "Gifts to the Diversity Scholarship Fund make a difference in the lives of a few who, in turn, make a difference in the lives of many. That's leveraging your investment."
