ITP Announces New Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology Program
The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology is proud to announce a new spiritually-oriented Psy.D. Program in Clinical Psychology.
Imagine a Psy.D. program that integrates a spiritual orientation and a clinical education designed by an institute with over 35 years experience training outstanding licensed clinicians. Imagine an intimate classroom environment that connects students with core faculty who are prominent leaders in the field, and a close mentoring relationship with those faculty members that will guide and shape your clinical development. Now imagine that program is delivered within a dynamic community of practitioner-scholars, in one of the most beautiful areas of the world, the San Francisco Bay Area. We would like to welcome you to ITP's new Psy.D. in spiritually oriented clinical psychology.
Grounded in ITP's innovative whole-person approach to education, the new Psy.D. program will focus on experiential learning aimed at facilitating personal and spiritual maturity; evidence-based spiritually oriented clinical training; and research on spiritually oriented clinical interventions.
The Psy.D. Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program:
- Provides a professional training program grounded in the foundations of clinical psychology;
- Integrates a wide range of traditional and non-traditional spiritual approaches and practices shown to be relevant to clinical practice;
- Supports research that investigates how spiritual approaches and practices are useful in clinical practice;
- Investigates the significance of ethnic, gender, sexual orientation and cultural differences upon human development, models of change, and spiritual expression.
- 90% of courses in the program are taught by core faculty.
- Is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
It is increasingly considered essential in the field of clinical psychology to acknowledge the spiritual aspects of the human psyche. At ITP, we not only believe that including spiritual practices and approaches develops better clinicians, we also believe that ethical clinical training requires requires responding to the full range , including the integration of multicultural spiritual/religious expertise into clinical practice.
To this end, Psy.D. students gain two years of supervised practicum and 1500 hours of internship experience in a wide array of community agencies. These settings include a variety of clinical populations -- ranging from people suffering from severe mental problems and those experiencing homelessness and substance abuse, to culturally diverse school age youth and elderly in assisted living settings. Taking into account the variety of approaches in which sites specialize, ITP strives to integrate spiritually oriented psychology perspectives into practicum and site-based training.
