Palo Alto, CA _The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology is pleased to announce that David Abram, author of the Spell of the Sensuous, will join the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology atits next Global Programs Seminar in April. The seminar, entitled Desert Visions: Earth, Ceremony and Prayerful Ways, will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico from April 28rd, 2006 through May 2nd, 2006 andwill be open to the public.
In Abrams' workshop, Between the Body and Breathing Earth, participants will be given theunique opportunity to open to the perception of the natural world and to more deeplyunderstand how we use our language and symbols to process our experiences. Rosemarie Anderson, Core Faculty member of the Institute of TranspersonalPsychology remarked, "Using his skills as magician andphenomenological ecologist, David Abram's writings awaken us to the beauty of language and the connection of language to the beauty of thenatural world. He reminds us that beauty embodies the spiritual life,naturally, effortlessly, constantly."
In addition to David Abram, Flordemayo (Mayan Elder and member ofThe International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers) willconduct a workshop exploring the importance of the re-emergence of feminine spirit at this time in our planet's ecological history.
Jose Lucero and John Eagleday will each conduct workshops that draw upon the wisdom of their native ancestors. In his workshop,"Reconnecting with the Earth", Jose Lucero will guide seminarattendees through the process of cultivating a responsive relationship with the natural world. Lucero is a member of the White Corn Family and the Winter Clan at Santa Clara, and a memberof Traditional Elders/Youth Circle.
For the past 25 years, John Eagleday, from the Coast Miwok and Delaware nations, has facilitatedtraditional Native games programs on behalf of Tribal communities in the U.S. and Canada. In hisworkshop, "Games for Life: Traditional Native Games," Eagleday will explore how these games facilitate human development, help people to become an integral part of community life, andcontribute to lifelong learning.
ITP faculty member Nancy Rowe, Ph.D., a practicing Expressive Arts Therapist and transpersonaleducator, will lead participants in an experience of Authentic Movement and opening their heartsto others. Participants will also attend the Ceremonial Corn Dance at the San Felipe Pueblo on May first.
