Huston Smith to present at Global Seminar

Palo Alto, CA The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP) announced today that its next quarterly global programs seminar entitled Transpersonal Diversity: Cross-cultural Perspectives - Sacred Wisdom in Action will focus on transpersonal diversity, exploring the diverse spiritual paths that all lead to the same end. Huston Smith, renowned world religions scholar, will present the keynote address.

Between 100 and 150 students, many of whom originate from diverse cultural and spiritual traditions from around the world, are expected to attend the seminar beginning Friday evening January 13th and ending mid-day Wednesday the 18th at Mercy Center in Burlingame. In addition to Huston Smith, special guests include Yi Wu, Ph.D., known as a sage and distinguished scholar of ancient Chinese philosophies and Rina Sircar, Ph.D., a Buddhist nun and living demonstration of lifelong dedication to the Buddhist tradition. ITP faculty members Bob Frager, Ph.D.; James Fadiman, Ph.D.; and Kate Wolf-Pizor, M.A., MFT will each present a view of transpersonal diversity through the psychology of their spiritual traditions.

Huston Smith, Ph.D. has authored 14 books on religion, is the recipient of numerous honorary doctorates, has won awards for his films including documentaries on Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Sufism and teaches at Syracuse University and The University of California at Berkeley. His most recent publication is entitled The Soul of Christianity: Restoring the Great Tradition. A scholar of the world's religions, Huston Smith has called each spiritual tradition simply, ".a new idiom for expressing the same basic truths."

Robert Frager, Ph.D., ITP founder, professor and current Director of the Spiritual Guidance Program at ITP, explained, "This seminar will not only explore the psychology of several of the world's spiritual traditions, but also acknowledge the value of that diversity. Different paths to truth appeal to different people. The Prophet said, 'There are as many paths to God as there are souls.' "

Serving graduate students from around the world in its Global Distance Learning Programs, ITP's Global Programs seminars are also open to the public with one fee for credit and another for no credit. For more information about ITP's global programs and a complete list of topics and speakers
