Career Resource Center: Résumés and Interviewing Skills
There is much advice on the “right” format for a résumés or a curriculum vitae (CV). However, a résumés that is right for an entry level position may be ineffective for a high level position. Compiled here are some resources to inform your résumés/CV writing.
Always (unless it is an electronic format résumés database) put a well-written cover letter with your résumés/CV. The cover letter entices the potential employer to read your résumés, which entices him/her to invite you to an interview, where you then do a great job of selling yourself into the position you want.
When mailing or hand-delivering a cover letter and résumés, never staple or fold them. That is improper protocol in the USA, and some employers will not even consider your application if you disregard this protocol.
Do not include your references in your résumés. Always have several copies in hand when you go for your interview.
